Work With Michael

If we understand how our brains deal with information from the outside as well as from inside our own heads, we open up a world where we are in control, and not being pushed around by emotions, stress and constant bombardment from our environment.

Michael takes you on a journey through the hardware and software of our brains, and shows how the world we live in - and the way it preys on our evolved safety mechanisms - hijacks and overwhelms us. He provides insights from Neuroscience and Psychology to show how this works, and the effects it has on how we feel, communicate, work, and deal with relationships. Once we understand this, Michael provides simple, practical and effective tools to live and lead a healthier and more fulfilling life that benefits you and those around you.

Some of the themes Michael speaks on are ‘why emotions overwhelm us’, ‘how can I deal more effectively with stress’, and ‘how can I thrive in the face of constant uncertainty?’

The Neuroscience of Stress & Wellbeing

  • Our brains can create a stress response in milliseconds, much faster than our conscious awareness. This can then hijack our entire brain and body, drawing all of our resources into a potential fight or escape from a potential threat. If we learn to respond to this information from our brain, rather than trying to escape from it, we can thrive even under extreme pressure

The Neuroscience of Leadership, Innovation & Creativity

  • Building strong teams and a healthy team culture comes from the top down. Real leadership comes from authenticity, vulnerability and self-awareness. Understanding how your brain and body are wired and how it works can help you lead and foster authentic relationships in your team. Lots of our responses and communication can be driven by non-conscious brain areas, particularly when we are under stress. Once this instinctual reacting kicks in, we lose control of our innovation and creativity, and this is contagious. But once we understand it, we can use this knowledge in our favour.

Building A Resilient Brain for Work & Home

  • Stress Inoculation is not about avoiding stress - it’s about stressing in a skillful way. In this talk, Michael discusses practical strategies for individuals and teams to develop a resilient brain. To do so, we can learn to develop strategies which help change our brains interact with the world.

Why Stress Kills Creativity and How To Deal With It

  • Contrary to what you might think, creativity is a skill that can be developed and fostered. Our brains exhibit a very unique pattern of activity when it becomes creative. Setting the right neural conditions for creativity is a key first step, and is often overlooked in modern corporate environments. This talk focuses on what those criteria are and how to create them.
